FOUR QUOTES ù

  1. ¦ Gandhi believed in doing some meaningful work at home daily. Increasingly, as we specialize in our careers, we lose touch with our own capacity for learning diverse skills. Gandhi's spinning wheel is a famous symbol of individual empowerment. In our postmodern world, if we take a college course, create art, repair our own car, refinish a piece of furniture, do some carpentry, grow vegetables or learn to write a computer program, we are in a Gandhian sense empowering ourselves and are gaining more control over our lives. In changing times and economies, this is important. We will no longer feel like job slaves, because we know that we can do many things. We have more control over our existence. Many new meaningful careers have started this way. David Parks.

  2. ¦ Gandhi was inevitable. If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought and acted, inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward a world of peace and harmony. We may ignore Gandhi at our own risk. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

  3. ¦ Both Gandhiji and Martin Luther King are inspiring examples of the power and truth of nonviolence and the actions that arise from them. They not only embraced nonviolence in principle, but implemented it in action. Both gave their lives for this precious vision. This Season for Nonviolence is a very good tool to remind us of their witness, but also of the large unfinished work we have together in transforming awareness on our planet. His Holiness, The Dalai Lama.

  4. ¦ Man's happiness really lies in contentment. He who is discontented, however much he possesses, becomes a slave of his desires. And really there is no slavery equal to that of his desires. All the sages have declared from the house-tops that man can be his own worst enemy as well as his best friend. To be free or to be a slave lies in his own hands. And what is true for the individual is true for society. Mohandas K. Gandhi.
