AN EXAM PRAYER THAT WORKS !

Now I sit me down to study
I pray the Lord I won't go nutty
If I should fail to learn this
junk,
I pray the Lord I will not flunk.

But if I do, don't pity me at all,
Just sit my butt down in study hall.
Tell my parents I did my best,
Then pile my books upon my chest.

Now I lay me down to rest,
And pray I'll pass tomorrow's test.
If I should die before I wake,
That's one less test I'll have to take!

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must - but don't you quit.

All you need in this life is ignorance
and confidence, then success is sure.

  • 'You have reached the pinnacle of success as soon as you become uninterested in money, compliments, or publicity.' -Thomas Wolfe, novelist (1900-1938).

"As I had grown accustomed to my expectations,
I had insensibly
begun to notice their effect upon myself and those around me.

Their influence on my own character, I disguised from my recognition as
much as possible, but I knew very well that it was not all good."

FIGHTING WAVES OF PANIC : RESPIRATION CARREE WORKS !!!

Whoever you are and have an oral to stand for, GO FOR IT!

Don't worry about your supposed weaknesses!

Find yourself a positive mantra - "calm, concentration and harmony" or "confiance, paix et assurance", whatever positive short sentence which calms you and makes you feel STRONGER and repeat it in moments of crisis....

If you feel oppressed by panic or anguish, BREATHE calmly, deeply and determinedly.

Try respiration carrée : count 4 while breathing in, hold your breath counting 2, then breathe out counting four times, then try to keep your lungs empty counting 2. It's very effective when repeated several times for fighting waves of panic...

Inhale and exhale through your nose!

Keep your COOL : it's always in times of exam that you will lose your bag, train ticket or Visa Card.

So be aware of what you are doing...

Treat yourself with care and respect.

You are your most valuable asset.

"As is our confidence, so is our capacity." (William Hazlitt)

So, believe in yourself...

PLACEBO EN BELLE PLACE

  • Placebo : British physiologist Patrick Wall, one of the world's leading experts wrote :

[In regard to the varying effectiveness of different kinds of placebos], capsules containing colored beads are more effective than colored tablets, which are superior to white tablets with corners, which are better than round white tablets.

Beyond this, intramuscular saline injections are superior to any tablet but inferior to intravenous injections.

Tablets taken from a bottle labeled with a well-known brand name are superior to the same tablets taken from a bottle with a typed label.

My favorite is a doctor who always handled placebo tablets with forceps, assuring the patient that they were too powerful to be touched by hand.

  • FORGET ABOUT the inefficient staring-at-your-notes-and-trying-to-burn-them-into-your-brain method.

It's the absolutely worst way of revising, for it leaves your mind far too free for those distracting thoughts to pop up.

It's much better to revise actively,

    • summarising your notes,
    • converting the information into flow-charts and diagrams,
    • engaging in revision quizzes with your friends, and so on.

Nick Hayes adds some good mental reasons for doing this...

"The highest reward for a person's toil
is not what they get for it, but what they
become in the process.." -John Ruskin.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you can never tell how close you are,

It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Role of the sense of smell

"The day when, in the chain of events from the flower to the perfume, the flower is no longer picked, perfume will have lost its power.

Capturing the flower, taking possession of its soul in order to transform it, is a way of uniting ourselves with the earth and of giving perfume its place in a mysterious and unique process... when perfume is worn by men and women, they take an essential role in the process."

SELF-MOTTO
I play it cool, I dig all jive,

And that's the reason I stay alive.
M
y motto, as I live and learn,
is "Dig and be dug in return".
Langston Hughes.

If it tickles your funny bone then chances are it will reduce the stress in your life and leave your immune system to do its part.

This premise has been supported by both the field of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences.

A recent publication with research data appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Skin welt sizes were compared in patients suffering from severe allergies after one group watched a video featuring Charlie Chaplin and the other group listened to a documentary on weather.

Needless to say, the Japanese study confirmed a reduction in skin welt size in the group watching the famed comedian.

EXERCISE : Make It A Priority

Spend your non-agreg reading, or TV time, exercising instead !

If you're like most people, finding time for
exercise is difficult. Here are my "top 9"
tips to help you in that quest:

1. Make exercise a priority. We all make time
in our lives for the things that are most
important to us. If I told you I'd give you a
million dollars if you exercised everyday for
the next 30 days, would you do it? Sure you
would, because it would suddenly become a
priority. If you're serious about finding time
for exercise, then it must be a priority in
your life.

2. Block out the same time period everyday
for exercise. This way it becomes part of your
daily routine just like brushing your teeth.
Vehemently guard this time period. It is your
time to take care of yourself.

3. Exercise first thing in the morning. This
is when your exercise time is least likely to
get interrupted by other things.

4. Turn off the television. The average adult
spends 16 hours per week watching television.
One of my clients told me that she resolved to
only watch television while she was exercising.
You may not be interested in taking it that far
but you can certainly cut out a few hours of
television a week to make time for exercise.

5. Wake up earlier in the morning to exercise.

6. Spend 30 minutes or so exercising on your
lunch break.

7. Get a book rack for your stair climber or
treadmill and spend some of your reading time
exercising.

8. Visit with your spouse or friend while walking
around the neighborhood rather than sitting on
the couch.

9. Take a couple of days to write down how you
spend your time every day, then determine how
you can better use your time to fit in exercise.

Get movin'! :)
